Magnesium is an important nutritional mineral that our bodies need.
Magnesium is the fourth most abundant mineral in the human body. Approximately 25 grams are present in an adult. Half of that amount is contained in the bones with the remainder found in soft tissues. The highest concentration is found in the skeletal muscles, followed by the liver, heart, and pancreas.
Because magnesium is a natural sedative, the more serious the magnesium deficit, the edgier a person may become.
Magnesium deficiency in the body can show up in a number of ways, including the following:

- Osteoporosis

Because magnesium is so important to proper body function, its Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDA) are fairly high. Here are the suggested amounts:

- Children - 50 to 250 milligrams
- Adults - 300 to 400 milligrams
- Pregnant or lactating mothers - 450 milligrams
Foods that are high in magnesium include the following:
- Spinach
- Kale
- Collard greens
- Swiss chard
- Flax seeds
- Tuna
- Mackerel
- Pollock
